Ant at The Twelve Bar Club 18th Jan 1999: Page 1

One dark drizzly night in January I made my way past the crack smokers to a ropey looking little club tucked away in the back-streets of central London. Why? To catch up with an old friend now simply known as Ant playing a solo set down the 12-bar Club.

You may already know Ant from his role as Drummer for indie kings Hefner. Tonight Ant's gangly arms and legs cut an awkward frame hunched over his guitar on the tiny stage. I swear that as he made his way through his (alas) brief set of his bedsit musings he had an evil little grin at the corner of his mouth. I guess that epitomises Ant's work in a way. At face value his songs may seem gentle giants, but each has an indefinable tinge of bitterness.

Sorry about the lack of photos, but the poor light and small venue made it near impossible.

Ant: The man himself.
